COOPER CITY BEATS ST. THOMAS & WINS DISTRICT!!!

^That’s the story on the FRONT page of sun-sentinel.com — which just goes to show how huge this is. It’s higher than Andy Rooney dying and some big coke bust.
Cooper City High School is notoriously known for losing football games. We would always go to the games and the team always played hard, but wins were generally hard to come by. Last year they did great though, they won districts. And this year?
St. Thomas is ranked as the number 9 best high school football team in America. Not Broward, not Florida, but AMERICA. Every year, they slaughter the Coop on the football field, and as it says in that article, in the past four CC v. STA games alone, St. Thomas has outscored us 239-17.
This year Cooper City football is doing amazing. They’re undefeated with just one game left in the regular season, and last night they beat St. Thomas and won the district — the first time St. Thomas HASN’T won the district since 1996.
My Facebook news feed went crazy.
I mean, that’s how I and most of us found out about the win. And these weren’t just high school kids and creepy college kids who still talk about high school (like me), but like all the alumni all the way back through like 06 I saw, showing Cowboy spirit. It was really cool, and so good for the school/city. I wish I could have been there.
As James Pagano so elegantly puts it, “Damn St. Thomas sucks to suck… Beat by a white public school lmao.”
Now they’re going for Regional & State! Go Cowboys!
Watch the video on the Sun-Sentinel article, it’s awesome.

YANKEES > YOU

I love going to Yankee Stadium. That place is like a kingdom.
Yesterday Dylan and I went to go see the Yankees play (and beat) the Toronto Blue Jays (lolol why does Canada even have a baseball team?). I’ve gone to a bunch of games before through NYU, but I hate their seats. You can’t see half the field from over there. So this time I went on StubHub and got my own seats. I found some good ones that while still in the nosebleeds, were in the first row, and behind home plate.

When we got there, our two seats were between some of the largest gentleman on the planet, so rather than be the peanut butter and jelly of a fat sandwich, we decided to sit in some open seats in the 2nd row where there was actually room to move.
The game was awesome, though. Close enough to keep it interesting, but we were winning for most of the game so not stressful. For the 9th inning, once people started to leave, we were even able to claim our front row seats to watch Mariano Rivera close it out.
Go Yankees.
USA! USA! USA!

David has always told me how amazing soccer is. And while I’ve never really argued that it wasn’t (or have I, David? hah), I’ve also never really given it a chance.
I grew up playing baseball, and watching the Marlins. Then I stopped caring about sports for a while. Then I got into the Yankees and again into the Marlins, but still, it’s all baseball. Well if there’s anything that this World Cup has taught me, it’s this: I love soccer.
The games are intense! There’s only 90 minutes to play, with no commercials other than at half time, and I don’t know about you, but when I’m watching a game, I can’t look away. Whenever a baseball game is on, I’m like browsing the internet, doing homework, having dinner, or whatever else while watching.
In today’s game, the USA had to win, or be eliminated. Despite the fact that the referees clearly dislike America like most people across the Atlantic do, we were able to score the winning goal in the 91st minute of play. Try disallowing that, bitches.
Anyway, moral of the story? David is always right, and FIFA referees are always wrong.
GO USA!
