I have lots of things to post about on here but the TSA broke my laptop and I’ve been computerless for this whole week. It’s still at the Apple store as I type this from my iPhone. Gunna have to play post catch up whenever I get it back.

Preordering iPhones is so obnoxious.

I’ve purchased one iPhone in my life, and that was the first one that came out in 07.

Every year since then, when Apple releases a new iPhone, I buy it, then sell my previous phone unlocked on eBay. The first time I did it, I actually made a profit, and the other two times I just about broke even. So it’s awesome because I get the new iPhone every year, without actually having to pay anything (because I’m a broke college kid lololol)

It’s kind of crazy actually but I guess in some foreign countries, you can’t just go out and buy an iPhone like you can in the US. Or you can, and it’s just super expensive. So what a lot of people do is they’ll buy used, unlocked American iPhones on eBay so that they’re still getting a good deal, but also paying enough to cover the cost of my new phone. eBay can be annoying because you usually have to deal with people trying to scam you, but once you find a real buyer, it’s always totally worth it.

So anyway, as everyone knows the iPhone 4S was announced this week and pre-orders opened up today.

Pre-orders were supposed to start at Midnight Pacific time, which is 3AM over here on the East Coast. So I stayed up till 3 and waited, even though the site didn’t actually go live until 3:45. When it did, it was overloaded with customers and didn’t work right (this happens every year fghksjgdksdghkjgd). It just hits you with errors or would sit processing forever. At 4:30, I gave up and went to sleep.

A mere 3 hours later I got back up, and tried again. This time, the system was working, but it was only willing to ship my new phone to the “billing address” on my account. Well, first of all, my grandparents own the account, and second of all, the listed address was their old house from like 5 years ago. Nobody lives there anymore! And it doesn’t let you change the address. So. Frustrating.

So I tried to call Apple, but all the lines were clogged. Then I tried calling AT&T and amazingly I got through, and the guy was able to set up an order for the phone to be sent to me here in New York. Hopefully that all works out.

Then I had to rush to be in class by 9:30. It lasted until 4.

Overall, not a great day. But new iPhone in a week! Whatuppp

¡Bienvenido a Miami!

David and I hung out on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach today. Five things happened:

1. David had his first Shake Shack experience! Which as we all know can be life changing. And he enjoyed it.

2. I used the new Final Cut X at the Apple store. It’s as terrible as everyone says it is.

3. When we walked out onto the beach, this girl came up to us with her friend and said “Hey, she doesn’t speak English but can she take a picture with you?” So, we did. Now, my first thought was, oh, these nice tourists want to take a picture with some locals. But upon second thought, these two Spanish speaking latinas probably were the locals who wanted to take a picture with us, the pale white kids wearing jeans and sneakers on the beach who are probably from Arkansas or something. That’s us! Either way, good for them. I hope they win whatever bet they were obviously involved in.

4. We saw some dude walking his pig down Lincoln Road. David acted all nonchalant like that happens every day, but I say… Only in South Beach.

5. As we were leaving, my low gas light came on, and we went on a frantic search for gas… in Miami, no less… so I ended up having to go to a BP (which I try to avoid ever since they ruined the ocean) and paying $3.93/gallon. But I guess it evened out since the parking machine in Miami Beach malfunctioned so I got to park all day for free.

Good times.

Apple Aventura and Apple Miami Beach both suck.

^Aventura Mall decked out for Christmas.

The rubber part on the bottom of my mom’s MacBook was coming off so I told her I’d bring it over to Apple to have it fixed. I made an appointment for 12:15pm at the Apple store in the Aventura Mall.

Usually it takes me about 30 mins to drive there. Less on a good day, but it’s easier to get to than the Ft. Lauderdale Apple store imo. I left my house at 11:15 yesterday leaving an extra 30-minutes to deal with any after-Christmas mall traffic and whatever.

It took me an hour and a half to get there.

There was some big accident on Biscayne Blvd and they had it closed down to one lane. That mixed in with the extra Christmas traffic and the 85 billion Canadians and New Yorkers in Miami for the winter was a disaster.

When I walked into the Apple Store it was 12:45 — just 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. I went up to the concierge guy and told him what happened which after giving me a weird look said “Yeah, I don’t think there’s anything I can do but I’ll check.” He promptly forgot about me, so 10 minutes later, after reminding him I was waiting, he went to check with his manager who said, not realizing I was in earshot, “sucks for him” and walked away. Concierge dude then came back to me and said there was nothing they could do and that he could make me a new appointment for 6:30pm. 6 hours later? I don’t think so.

So I went on my iPhone and scheduled a new appointment for 2:45 at the Miami Beach Apple Store on Lincoln Road. That left enough time to drive down to Lincoln Road, and have lunch at the Miami Shake Shackkkkk, woo!

The irony is that even though I was at the Miami Beach Apple Store super early, they didn’t take me until 3:15… 30-minutes after my scheduled appointment, and the amount amount of time that I was late to my first appointment at Aventura.

I got home at like 5. Almost six hours for a repair that took less than 10 mins. But I do love Lincoln Road, so I guess it was worth it.

Pictures of Miami Beach

Taken on my old iPhone last week, touched up in iPhoto.

I got my iPhone 4!

Today is iPhone 4 launch day, which is cool because even though I’ve had all the iPhones, I’ve never actually had one on launch day. (Early adopters, whatup)

The picture above is the line at Apple Aventura at around 9:30AM when I got there this morning. That line is JUST the reservations line. I felt terrible for the people who didn’t pre-order because I met somebody who had been there since 2:30AM and wasn’t even close to the front.

Anyway, as I cruised past 2:30AM guy, I eventually made it in and out of the store at around 11:15. It was really crowded, but worked pretty seamlessly and I have my new phone so I’m happy! The Apple guy helping me told me that Aventura got more phones than any other Miami-area Apple store (not sure if they still have any but call them if you’re looking for one 305-914-9826) — Even more than Lincoln Rd, who already had to turn away non-preorder people.

The bad news is that I feel like not too many other people I know have their iPhone 4s yet and some are waiting for the white to come out next month, so I have nobody to video chat with!

The good news is that I met this guy in the line who works for Office Depot in Weston and might be able to hook me up with a job! More on that later.

I want to order my freakin iPhone and it isn’t working!

Miami Apple Store: Nice store, creepy employees.

I’ve been to a few Apple stores in my day, and I feel like they all have that one really sketchy, creep of an employee… and they are always the one who comes to help me.

My MacBook has like stopped burning DVDs so I brought it down to Apple Aventura (not technically in the city of Miami but in Miami-Dade county so don’t hit me on a technicality, bitches) to be fixed today.

The store is filled with nice, friendly people, yet I get this creep who smelled like cigarettes and candles from the dollar bin at WalMart. He spoke with a child molester kind of voice and took a little too much of an interest in me. Like, he kept touching me on my shoulder and patted my back when I was leaving.

So anyway, he told me that it would be done and ready to pick up in three hours or less, so I decided to just hang around Aventura Mall for a while since it’s such a nice mall.

When they called me saying that it’s ready, I went back and talked to somebody else in the store. She was nice, helpful, and went to get my laptop right away. As I was waiting, CREEP MOLESTER DUDE SHOWS UP from out of nowhere! And he called me by name which was even creepier since he wasn’t holding my paperwork this time.

But I mean… my Mac burns DVDs again so I guess it was worth it.
