I have lots of things to post about on here but the TSA broke my laptop and I’ve been computerless for this whole week. It’s still at the Apple store as I type this from my iPhone. Gunna have to play post catch up whenever I get it back.

It is such a small world.

I had so many strange coincidences happen to me at the airport in New York tonight.

First, I was sitting at my gate, waiting to board my plane to SoFla, when our plane arrives from Long Beach, California. So I’m watching the people unboard the plane, when all of the sudden, a familiar face walks off. It’s Mark, someone that I met on a film shoot a couple months ago. Weird thing is, he goes to UVM, the University of Vermont which is a) not in California b) not in New York and c) the school my sister is going to next year. So he came up to me and talked to me a little bit. Cool guy.

Second, while I was waiting in line to board the very same plane, I notice these two guys in front of me, one of which is holding a red CC Football bag. Of course it was Cooper City. They were two CCHS alums, one from 06 and one from 08 (who strangely I had never met before!). They were both super cool and were telling me about the birthright trip to Israel they just got back from. That is like the thing to do this summer isn’t it?!

Anyway, strange day at JFK…
and now I’m in Florida! For a month!

Ughghghhghhh air travel.

Remember a couple days ago when I was bragging about how awesome it is to fly on national holidays? Well I guess I jinxed myself, because getting back to New York this past Wednesday was a messsss.

I guess there was a big storm or whatever here that delayed all the flights. As you can see from the picture above that I took at 7:30pm, the 2:10 flight to New York had just departed while my flight, the 4:41 was delayed until 8:11. We didn’t get out of there until even later than that, still better than the 5:30 flight though, which never left.

That’s what annoys me the most about plane delays. Even if there is a terrible storm and you know your flight is going to be delayed, they’ll leave it “On Time” until like two hours before your flight. But even then they’ll delay it like 20 minutes. Then another 20. And another. Until before you know it, it’s 8pm, an hour after your flight is scheduled to land, and you haven’t even taken off yet!

THEN when we finally got to New York, I decided to take the subway as opposed to taking a cab because it’s $50 cheaper. It was midnight, but I’m confident enough in the safety of NYC’s subway system to get me through Queens, through Brooklyn, and into Manhattan in the middle of the night safely. What I didn’t think about was that they work on the lines in the middle of the night so everything was super delayed and slow.

You know what else I neglected to think about? THE TEMPERATURE! I was wearing the same t-shirt and light hoodie that I was wearing when I left my house in FL. It was 30-something degrees out with wind chills in the 20’s. I had to wait on two outdoor platforms and then walk from the subway to my apartment in that shizz.

So all that, and I’ll be back in FL in two weeks!

However, I didn’t have to go through the new x-ray scanning machines for either of my flights. They didn’t even have them in the jetBlue terminal at JFK, and while they had them at Ft. Lauderdale, they weren’t using them for whatever reason.

Sorry for the long post!

Flying on Thanksgiving is amaaazzzinnggg.

I think I need to start flying on national holidays more often.

Yesterday, I flew from New York to Florida at 3:45PM on Thanksgiving day. I was concerned that getting to the airport would be a nightmare with the parade just wrapping up and all, and that the airport would be busy and it’d be a mess.

Easiest travel day of life.

I took the subway to JFK, which is usually a pretty long trip on crowded trains. There was just a few other people riding with me and I got there SO fast.

Once I got to the airport there were THREE people in front of me on the security line and nobody in front of me on the bag drop line.

Then once I was inside the terminal (jetBlue Terminal 5, which as I’ve blogged about before, is huge) there was nobody there! They have four big flat screen TVs displaying all of the outbound flights… they were only using half of one screen since there were so few flights… and I’d say about a fourth of them were to Ft. Lauderdale.

And the best part of it all: JFK is one of the busiest airports in the world, so even once you board your plane, you end up having to wait in line to take off. There have been times where we were literally 27th in line to take off. Yesterday: NO WAIT.

Amaaaaaaaazinngg.

Anyway, now I’m home for 6 days!

Crazy delays and cancellations at JFK last night. But I made it home and have a lot to catch you guys up on so stay tuned!

Lugging boxes down the street, finding a BlackBerry, and cabs getting in car accidents. What a morning.

This morning, I had to somehow get a large, 40 pound box AND a bag full of my bedding stuff (comforter, pillows, blankets, one of those big corner pillow things, the heavy stuff) from my dorm on 23rd and 3rd to my Manhattan Mini Storage unit on 17th and 10th. (Doesn’t sound far, but crosstown avenue blocks are the equivalent of about 5 regular city blocks.) The worst part? I had to do it all by myself.

So, I came up with a plan.

I brought the box & back downstairs (barely) and left it out in front of my building. Then I went and hailed a cab, with the intention of having him drive in front of my building so I could load the boxes in.

If you go to NYU or you’ve ever been to NYC, you know that all the streets are one way and making this happen didn’t really work out. So I had to have this cabbie wait two blocks away, while I first went and got the box, and then went to get the other bag.

After using more energy than I would have liked to use at 9:30 in the morning, I was finally in the cab, when I noticed that there was a BlackBerry left on the seat. So I told the cabbie that it was there and he told me to call the last dialed number (he didn’t really speak English and didn’t know what was going on.)

BUT IT GETS BETTER.

When I turned on the BlackBerry, this guys e-mail opened up, and it turns out he was e-mailing with his friend at that moment, and it was being synced to his phone. This is what he wrote:

Great. So now I know that the cab I’m currently riding in had been in an accident immediately before picking me up. That’s reassuring.

Since his e-mail was open, I ended up just sending him a message from himself with the cab’s ID number so that he could hopefully call 311 (the NYC city number) and get his phone back later.

I would have just met up with him myself, but I happened to be going to the airport after the storage place which is where I am now to write this post. See you soon FLORIDA!
